The reigning Liga MX champion has signed the Chile international from German side Hoffenheim.

Chile international Eduardo Vargas has signed with Tigres from Hoffenheim, the Liga MX side announced Friday.

Goal Mexico reported Wednesday that the club was in talks to bring the attacker in, and Tigres' sporting director Miguel Angel Garza Martinez said Friday that Vargas will arrive in northern Mexico on Sunday morning, signing a four-year deal with the team.

The reigning Liga MX champion bid farewell to Andy Delort earlier this week, with the French forward returning to his native country to sign with Toulouse. That left coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti's side with a void to fill — and an opportunity to bring in a foreign player to fill a roster spot.

Vargas could play next to Andre-Pierre Gignac up top or under the Frenchman as a second striker. While he has starred with the Chilean national team, winning the Golden Boot en route to both the 2015 Copa America and 2016 Copa America Centenario titles, he's struggled outside of the Americas, scoring just three goals in a stint with Queens Park Rangers and two league goals for current club Hoffenheim.

Ferretti and Co., however, believe the 27-year-old can add something extra to a team already full of attacking talent. While Gignac is yet to score this season, Lucas Zelarayan and Ismael Sosa each scored doubles in a 4-2 win over Club America on Saturday, while wingers Javier Aquino and Jurgen Damm are regulars with the Mexico national team.

Vargas' arrival has led to increased chatter that Damm may be set for a long-expected move to a European club, but the 24-year-old speedster said in a news conference Friday that while he's had offers to go abroad, he's currently focused on winning another title with Tigres.
