New PSL boys Thanda Royal Zulu could be up for sale

Thanda Royal Zulu sealed their promotion to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after being crowned the 2016/17 National First Division (NFD) champions.

However, the celebrations have been cut short with the club’s owners reportedly mulling over the sale of the club due to financial constraints.

According to reports, the owners of Amabhubesi are concerned that they may not be able to sustain the business investment because of a lack of sponsorships.

The club has reportedly running at a lost for the last eight years following their relegation from the PSL in the 2008/2009 season.

“The club was put on the market before the season started but there were no takers,” a source told Phakaaathi.

“Running the club has proved quite costly and the owners are no longer sure if it is worth their while to keep going,” the source said.

Furthermore, the source stated that the sale of the club may depend on whether or not the King Cetshwayo District Municipality come on board to keep the club in Richards Bay.

“They are looking at a deal similar to that which Maritzburg United have with Umgungundlovu District,” the source concluded.
