AFC Cup 2018: Bengaluru FC through to the inter-zone play-off semi-final

Wins for Indian clubs Aizawl and Bengaluru helped the Super Cup champions reach the inter-zone play-off semi-final of AFC Cup 2018...

Bengaluru FC thrashed Bangladesh's Abahani Dhaka 4-0 in their final group match of the AFC Cup 2018 to book their berth in the inter-zone play-off semi-final. They also received a favour from fellow Indian club Aizawl FC who defeated New Radiant 2-1 in their last game, helping Bengaluru through as Group E winners.

Three out of four inter-zone semifinalists have already been decided. The Blues will be joined by Turkmenistan's FC Altyn Asyr and North Korean club April 25. The winner of the ASEAN zone final between Home United and Ceres-Negros will be the fourth team in the round.

A brace from defender Nishu Kumar and strikes from Daniel Segovia and skipper Sunil Chhetri helped Bengaluru run riot over Abahani who looked helpless throughout the game.

The equation for Bengaluru FC was not easy though as they had to depend on Aizawl who were facing an in-form New Radiant side. The Reds beat Oscar Bruzon's men 2-1 at home to help Bengaluru FC top the group.

The playoffs will be played from August 21, 2018.
