The Arizona Wildcats welcome the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to Tucson on Saturday night in a Week 1 showdown that closes out a full day of college football action.
Hawaii already has a game under its belt, edging Stanford 23-20 in its opener. The Warriors managed 306 yards of offense while holding the Cardinal to 286, though they struggled to sustain drives, converting only 3 of 10 third-down attempts and coming up empty on their lone fourth-down try. Even so, they made the most of their possessions and showed poise late.
Arizona, meanwhile, begins its third season under head coach Brent Brennan and enters a new era offensively with coordinator Seth Doege calling the shots.

Arizona vs Hawaii team news & key players
Arizona Wildcats team news
Quarterback Noah Fifita is back to lead the attack, and he’ll be joined in the backfield by Texas State transfer Ismail Mahdi. Mahdi is a proven weapon, tallying more than 2,300 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns over the past two seasons, while also catching 44 passes. Receiver Chris Hunter also returns after posting 323 yards and three scores a year ago.
If the Wildcats want to take the next step, their defense has to improve. Arizona surrendered 413 yards and nearly 32 points per game in 2024, prompting Brennan to promote Danny Gonzales to defensive coordinator. The secondary has been bolstered with transfers, including corners Michael Dansby (San Jose State), Jay’Vion Cole (Texas), and Ayden Garner (West Virginia). Safety Dalton Johnson provides toughness on the back end after leading the defense with 94 tackles last year. At linebacker, veteran Taye Brown returns alongside Texas State transfer Max Harris, while the defensive front looks deeper with Tre Smith and Dominic Lolesio joined by newcomers Chancellor Owens (Northwestern State) and Malachi Bailey (Alcorn State).
