Philadelphia Eagles vs Cleveland Browns team news

Philadelphia Eagles team news

In Philly, the plan is to give Jalen Hurts only a light workload against Cleveland. Tanner McKee has secured the No. 2 job behind him after an efficient opener, going 20-of-25 for 252 yards and two touchdowns. Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Kyle McCord remain locked in a battle for the third-string spot.

The Eagles also made some moves on the back end, trading for Jakorian Bennett from the Raiders last week. Bennett has already seen first-team reps opposite rookie Quinyon Mitchell and will continue his duel with Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo for a starting cornerback role. At safety, Reed Blankenship is secure, but Sydney Brown, Tristin McCollum, and Drew Mukuba are in a three-way fight for the other spot.

With Nakobe Dean still on the active/PUP list, Philly’s linebackers are also under the microscope. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon, and Jihaad Campbell are all contenders to start alongside Zack Baun. Meanwhile, the top trio of wide receivers is set, but two depth spots remain, with Johnny Wilson, Elijah Cooks, Ainias Smith, and Darius Cooper all trying to stake their claim.

Cleveland Browns team news

For the Browns, the quarterback picture remains as clear as mud. The competition for the Week 1 starting role — and even for this weekend — is wide open, with Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders, and Tyler Huntley all jockeying for position. Of the bunch, Sanders has drawn the most headlines since draft night, delivering a promising debut in the preseason opener. Still, head coach Kevin Stefanski isn’t tipping his hand on who will lead the offense come Saturday or when the regular season kicks off.

Cleveland’s camp battles don’t stop under center. The linebacker group is a crowded field, with Carson Schwesinger, Jerome Baker, Devin Bush, Winston Reid, Mohamoud Diabate, and Nathaniel Watson all fighting for three starting jobs. In the secondary, Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II have the inside track at cornerback but face pressure from Tony Brown II, Chigozie Anusiem, and others. On the defensive line, stars like Myles Garrett are cemented starters, but the supporting cast is still being sorted out.
