The Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1-1) hit the road for a preseason clash at Hard Rock Stadium against the Miami Dolphins (1-0-1) on Aug. 23, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. EDT in Miami.

The Dolphins kept their unbeaten preseason run alive last weekend, grinding out a 24-17 win at Ford Field over the Detroit Lions.

The starters checked every box they needed to, then headed for the sideline. That's the perfect preseason formula, and the Jaguars followed it to a tee with a sharp opening stretch on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome — a matchup that eventually wrapped up in a 17-17 deadlock with the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 of the preseason.

Miami Dolphins vs Jacksonville Jaguars team news

Miami Dolphins team news

Rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers bounced back in style after a shaky debut in Chicago, looking far more composed and efficient. The former Texas standout completed 11 of 17 throws for 116 yards, including a pair of touchdown strikes to undrafted rookie wideout Theo Wease Jr., who continues to make a name for himself.

Fifth-year receiver Dee Eskridge also strengthened his case for a roster spot. After fumbling on his first punt return, the speedster wasted no time making up for it. Eskridge caught three passes on the Dolphins’ next drive, including gains of 15 and 27 yards, before tiptoeing down the sideline for an electric 11-yard score that had the Miami sideline buzzing.

On the defensive side, veteran tackle Jordan Phillips was nearly unstoppable, racking up four tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a tackle for loss. Miami fans are already dreaming about what this defensive front might look like once the real games begin. Rookie running back Ollie Gordon II showed flashes of power and vision, rushing for 50 yards on 10 carries while adding a 14-yard reception. And in the secondary, undrafted corner Ethan Robinson put his elite athleticism on display, skying with a 42-inch vertical to swat a pass before hauling in a game-sealing interception, sending a jolt of energy through the Dolphins’ bench.

Jacksonville Jaguars team news

Trevor Lawrence looked sharp out of the gate, hitting eight of his 10 throws for 76 yards, including a seven-yard strike to Washington. That score capped off a crisp 55-yard march and put Jacksonville on top 7-0 with just over two minutes left in the opening quarter.

The defense set the tone early as well, stifling New Orleans to only 21 total yards and a lone first down. Andrew Wingard notched a sack, while Travon Walker pressured rookie passer Tyler Shough into an intentional grounding.

On the ground, Travis Etienne Jr. showed his burst with 24 yards on three carries during a strong second series for the run game, with the offensive line dictating the pace. Tank Bigsby chipped in with a six-yard run and a 19-yard catch on the opening drive, while Etienne added an eight-yard grab on the following possession that ended in Washington’s touchdown.

Among the reserves, Nick Mullens was efficient but not flawless, connecting on 14 of 17 passes for 112 yards before tossing a third-quarter pick. John Wolford managed three completions on seven attempts for 30 yards, while rookie Seth Henigan went one-for-three with 23 yards and an interception.
