The Los Angeles Rams (2-0) head to Huntington Bank Field for a preseason showdown with the Cleveland Browns (2-0) on Aug. 23, with kickoff set for 1:00 pm ET in Cleveland.

Both sides have been sharp through two weeks, but Saturday’s clash offers another chance to gauge depth charts and rising storylines.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett IV delivered late-game heroics, finding wideout Tru Edwards for the go-ahead touchdown with just five ticks left on the clock, sealing the Rams’ nail-biting 23-22 triumph over the Chargers on Saturday at SoFi Stadium. On the other side of the ball, linebacker Brennan Jackson wreaked havoc early, piling up two sacks in the opening half to help set the tone.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Browns walked away with a 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly’s attack sputtered most of the night, with their only trip to the end zone coming courtesy of Mukuba’s pick-six rather than any offensive spark.

Cleveland Browns vs Los Angeles Rams team news

Cleveland Browns team news

For Cleveland, all eyes were on rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who stepped into the starting role against the Eagles with Shedeur Sanders sidelined by an oblique injury. The third-round pick out of Oklahoma looked poised for stretches, completing 13-of-18 passes for 143 yards and directing several scoring drives. He showed command in the two-minute drill, moving the ball efficiently to set up a field goal.

Still, his game wasn’t spotless—Gabriel forced a risky sideline throw that turned into a pick-six, and he fumbled on a botched handoff with Pierre Strong. Even with those growing pains, his pocket presence and composure under pressure were encouraging signs for a rookie adjusting to NFL speed.

The quarterback competition behind veteran starter Joe Flacco remains wide open, with Kenny Pickett, Sanders, and Tyler Huntley also in the mix. Flacco and the Browns’ first-team offense are expected to get their tune-up reps against the Rams, but the battle among the backups is far from settled—and Gabriel is very much in the thick of it.

Los Angeles Rams team news

Matthew Stafford was back on the field for the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, taking part in his first practice of the preseason after being sidelined with a sore back.

The 37-year-old quarterback jumped right in with the first-team offense, though he skipped media availability following the workout. Head coach Sean McVay noted that it’s still too early to gauge what Stafford’s return to the practice field means for his playing status moving forward.

Meanwhile, the Rams entered camp with major question marks on the offensive line. With Alaric Jackson recovering from blood clots and Rob Havenstein rehabbing shoulder surgery, depth was a major concern. To bolster the unit, L.A. added veterans D.J. Humphries and David Quessenberry, but the real surprise has been the performance of the reserves. Through two preseason games, the backups have not only held their ground—they’ve thrived.

That protection has kept quarterback Stetson Bennett clean and confident, giving the Rams’ offense rhythm despite sitting all of their starting linemen. With their depth shining brighter than expected, L.A. may have found answers to one of their biggest preseason questions.
