Betting: Will Marseille offer Payet a route out of West Ham?

The season may have begun with renewed hope for West Ham, but their ailing Premier League form, another early exit from the Europa League and teething issues at the London Stadium have seen the pressure building on Slaven Bilic.

Those issues look set to be compounded by Dimitri Payet, last season's Player of the Year, now refusing to play for the club.

Bilic has inisted that the Hammers won't let their best players leave in the January transfer window but the two parties look set for a stand-off over the coming weeks.

Skybet go 11/10 (2.10) that Payet remains at West Ham after the window closes on Tuesday 31 January. That price has been drifting since his managers' comments confirming the rift ahead of the weekend clash with Crystal Palace.

Top of the clubs likely to make a move for the France international, who scored twice at the European Championship last summer, are Marseille, priced at 11/4 (3.75).

Having spent two years at the Stade Velodrome prior to his switch to the Premier League, there is a logical argument for the club offering Payet a route out of what looks a very difficult situation.

A recent takeover means the Ligue 1 club by Frank McCourt means they now have the resources to consider bringing the player back to France as something of a figurehead signing, especially as it was the setting for Payet rediscovered the impressive form that paved the way for his move to London Stadium under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

Next in the market come Manchester United at 4/1 (5.0) with a raft of other candidates available at double figure quotes. Those include Chelsea (10/1), Paris Saint-Germain (10/1) and Arsenal (14/1).

One interesting option could be "Any Chinese Club", listed at 6/1 (7.0) by SkyBet. With several big names making the switch to play their football in the Far East, it would be a surprise if there wasn't interest in offering Payet a very well paid route out of East London via the emerging football nation.

West Ham are 16/1 (17.0) to be relegated this season with the same firm.
