Aubameyang: Arsenal can win the Europa League

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang believes Arsenal are capable of winning the Europa League in 2018-19.

The Gunners got their continental quest off to a perfect start on Thursday with a 4-2 victory over Vorskla Poltava.

Unai Emery’s side were always in complete control against Ukrainian opposition, with a brace from Aubameyang seeing them open up a four-goal lead at Emirates Stadium.

Danny Welbeck and Mesut Ozil were also among the goals before the Vorskla grabbed two late consolation efforts.

With last year’s semi-finalists now up and running in Europe once more, Aubameyang – who was prevented from turning out in the Europa League for Arsenal last season following a January move from Borussia Dortmund – is looking to go all the way.

The Gabonese striker told reporters: “I'm really happy to be back in this competition and we want to go to the final of course.

“I think we played well in the first half and the beginning of the second as well. We scored four goals.

“We have to improve and try to fight, and not concede a goal like we did in the last minute.”

Quizzed on the collective desire within the Arsenal camp to take the trophy, Aubameyang added: “Especially for me because I didn't play last year in the Europa League with the guys.

“It's good to start with a win, and the next game will be important also.”

Arsenal’s next Europa League outing will see them take in a trip to Qarabag on October 4.

Emery will be looking to secure another positive result in that fixture, allowing the Gunners to take charge of Group E.

The Spanish coach knows what is required to emerge victorious in Europe’s secondary club competition, with three successes savoured during his time in charge of Sevilla.
