Getty/InstagramNurnberg star has facial injuries after allegedly being attacked after posting photo in a Bayern Munich shirt
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 26-year-old defender, who joined Nurnberg from Waldhof Mannheim in 2023, was jumped at his home and left sporting serious bumps and bruises on his face. It has been suggested that said attack was the result of Sommer posting an image of himself on social media wearing a Bayern Munich shirt – with the Bundesliga giants considered to be fierce rivals of his current employers.

WHAT NURNBERG SAID
A police investigation into what occurred and why has been opened, with Nurnberg condemning the actions of those involved. A club statement read: "During the night from Saturday to Sunday, there was a physical attack on one of our U23 players. By lying in wait on the doorstep in the early evening and then physically attacking him a few hours later in the night, these people crossed all boundaries. The act is apparently a reaction to the player appearing in a Bayern jersey on social media three days earlier. The photo was deleted shortly after publication and the player also publicly apologised.
"The club will never accept players being physically attacked. That is exactly what happened last night through the actions of individuals. The club condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. It is absolutely incompatible with the values of FCN. The police investigation into the incident began last night. If there are any convictions in this connection, the club will of course react accordingly."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Nurnberg supporters vented their anger towards Sommer during the club’s home date with Magdeburg on Saturday. Various banners were unfurled around the stadium, with one reading: “Club pride instead of hipster posing. Niklas Wilson, you're sh*t, like FCB.” Another read: "Wilson, p*ss off, you Bayern pig.”
