Gerard Pique suggests Shakira has ‘not told truth’ about their explosive split - with Barcelona legend ‘very happy’ after moving on with new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti

After 11 years and two children together, World Cup winner Pique and pop superstar Shakira went their separate ways in June 2022. There has been plenty of speculation regarding the reasons for said uncoupling, with cheating allegations never far away from ex-Spain international Pique.

Colombian songstress Shakira has taken aim at her former flame in a number of songs, billing Pique as Harry Potter villain ‘Voldemort’ at one stage. Barca icon Pique is reluctant to be dragged into a war of words, as he has found love again with 25-year-old girlfriend Marti.

Pique has told CNN when quizzed on his split from Shakira and the subsequent fall out: “In the end, the truth or what happens or occurs is not told in the way it was. I cannot control this. The best thing is that in the end I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family, my friends, the people who really know you. They know what you are like and what you do, and that gives me a lot of peace of mind.

“I am very happy, I have a great time and I feel privileged. The life I have had, being able to play for the club of my life for more than 20 years, wonderful children, an incredible family, lifelong friends, those from school that I still have.”

Pique and Shakira have two sons together, Milan and Sasha, meaning that there will always be a family bond between them. Their relationship may have soured, but both have now moved on and remain prominent figures in their chosen professions.
