Christian Pulisic is No.1! USMNT ‘hierarchy’ in Serie A drawn up by Alexi Lalas – with future questions asked of Tim Weah & Yunus Musah at Juventus & AC Milan

There are four United States internationals plying their respective trades at the very highest level in Italy. Pulisic and Musah made their way to San Siro in the summer of 2023, while Weah has joined fellow countryman Weston McKennie at Juventus.

Pulisic is posting personal bests in Milan, reaching 13 goals for the season, but Musah has slipped onto the bench. In Turin, McKennie has enjoyed a remarkable reversal of fortune at Juve, while Weah often finds himself stuck among the substitutes.

Former USMNT star Alexi Lalas has told his State of the Union podcast when it comes to the American pecking order in Serie A: “A hierarchy? I think Christian Pulisic, then Weston McKennie, then – what are we doing here – Weah and then Musah. I think that would be it.”

He added on difficult situations for two U.S. stars in Europe: “Musah and Weah are obviously looking at their situation right now. They are probably looking, in their respective teams, and saying ‘hey, is this something that is going to change going forward?’ I don’t know if it is. Right now there is a massive separation between the Weston McKennies and Christian Pulisics and the Musah and Weahs. But they have guys around to hang out with or call, train with, and that’s a wonderful advantage.”

Milan midfielder Musah is still only 21, while Juve winger Weah is 24, meaning that time is on their side when it comes to making an impact with their current clubs. Neither, though, will want to hang around if it becomes clear that competitive game time is going to remain in short supply.
