Tobias Ocholla questions Sebastien Migne’s caliber of players in Kenya squad

Former Kenyan international Tobias Ocholla has questioned the caliber of players being called up to the national team-Harambee Stars.

The ex-Gor Mahia defender argues that not every player is cut to play for the national team. This comes ahead of Stars much anticipated two-legged Afcon qualifying matches against Ethiopia early in October.

“If you look at the number of call-ups to the national team in the last two or three years, almost half of the current players in the league have been called to the national team.

"This is unacceptable. Not everybody is a national team material. Some players are just meant to play in the league while only those with special skills should make it to the national team.

“Again, for consistency purposes, we need to have regular players named in the team but unfortunately, even a seasoned Kenyan (Sports) Journalist will struggle to name or even predict the starting squad,” Ocholla told Goal in an exclusive interview.

Coach Sebastien Migne has summoned 21 players and nine on standby for Ethiopia’s games set for October 10 with the reverse fixture slated for four days later.

The squad has, among other names, Victor Wanyama of Tottenham, Brian Mandela, Allan Wanga and Paul Were, all who missed Stars last two games against Ghana and Malawi for various reasons.
