Steve Komphela: Kaizer Chiefs and winning are synonymous

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Steve Komphela believes their win over Cape Town City has revitalized his team, saying the reason for not doing well is that their opponents often rise to the occasion.

Amakhosi had not won a match this season until their 2-0 away win at the Citizens, and according to Komphela, there is a buzz in the camp.

“The win on Wednesday has brought back the winning spirit in the camp. I’ve said it before, Chiefs and winning are synonymous. All our fixtures are big games. Opponents also rise to the occasion when they play against Chiefs,” Komphela told the Amakhosi website.

“There’s a buzz in the camp, let alone in the streets. The feedback that we are receiving is encouraging and the players are aware of the excitement they bring to the people when they play good football and win matches,” he said.

The 50-year-old has urged his players to guard against complacency in their upcoming games, especially against struggling teams.

“Soccer is a funny business. We have to guard against complacency and manage the high spirit in the camp. Meanwhile, with them (Wits), these are trying times for them and they will try to use our game to rebound from their recent disappointing results,” added Komphela.
