Rivers Angels progressed to a third successive Women’s Federation Cup final and will meet last year’s finalists Ibom Angels at the Samson Siasia Stadium on October 23.
A goal in either half from Cecilia Nku and Cynthia Aku saw Edwin Okon’s ladies earn a 2-0 win over the Yenagoa based side and advanced to the final of this year’s women cup competition.
Nku’s screamer on the brink of half-time gave the reigning champions a 1-0 first-half lead before Aku’s second-half strike guaranteed their progression at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
It is now a back-to-back semi-final defeat for Bayelsa Queens after they lost 4-0 in last year’s semi-final encounter against the champions in Port Harcourt.
Earlier in Owerri, Emem Essien’s first half brace was all coach Whyte Ogbonda’s side required to calm a 2-0 victory over Edo Queens to ensure a second successive appearance in the final.
After last year’s final defeat, Ogbonda will be hoping to avoid a back-to-back final loss this time against his former employers when they meet in Yenagoa
