Qatar Stars League: Al Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira saddened by El Jaish-Lekhwiya merger

Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira registered his first win against El Jaish in the final game of the 2016-17 Qatar Stars League season and shared his views on the club's merger with champions Lekhwiya.

Following the 2-1 victory over the weekend, the tactician lamented the end of the club's journey.

"We played against a team that has ended its footballing journey today," he said in the post-match press conference.

"I personally had never (before) won against El-Jaish before during my time with Al-Sadd. The El-Jaish players were really down because of the decision to merge, especially as they were a big team and it is unfortunate that their journey has ended.”

Lekhwiya and El Jaish, are set to merge ahead of next season and will be known as Al Duhail Sports Club.

The merger has been approved by the Ministry of Culture and Sports and is going ahead at Lekhwiya's request in agreement with El Jaish.

El Jaish was formed in 2007 while Lekhwiya came into existence in 2009 and have since secured five league titles out of the eight campaigns they have competed in.
