Mohun Bagan won the bragging rights in the Kolkata derby as they downed arch rivals East Bengal 2-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Striker Dipanda Dicka scored a couple of goals as he helped his side move into the fourth position on the league table.
“The result will not be a factor in our league position. To remain in the hunt for the league championship, we had to win and we won. I am not thinking about the score-line and what could have been,” said coach Sankar Lal Chakraborty.
“They played well but somehow we played better,” he mentioned.
The Green and Maroon brigade were without the services of star winger Sony Norde and Chakraborty was pleased that his team put in a top performance in his absence.
“The coach's job is to prepare the team. Without Sony we have made the team and the score-line is a reflection. His contribution to Mohun Bagan has been immense. This win is for Sony Norde.”
