Argentina's Emanuel Mammana ruled out of World Cup

Argentina’s Emanuel Mammana will not feature at this year’s Fifa World Cup in Russia.

The Zenit Saint Petersburg defender damaged his anterior cruciate ligament during his side’s 0-0 draw with Rostov.

And according to his club, he will be out of action between six to nine months after undergoing an operation.

The youngster made his senior national team debut in Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Brazil in an international friendly played on June 9, 2017 and has gone to rack up five caps.

He was on parade for the South Americans in their 4-2 defeat to Nigeria, and his injury will be a huge blow for Jorge Sampaoli’s men.

The two-time world champions are zoned in Group D alongside the Super Eagles, Croatia and Iceland.

Argentina begin their campaign on June 16 against Iceland at the Otkritie Arena, Moscow.
