GAME PREVIEW

Gennaro Gattuso Milan coachGetty Images

The appointment of Gattuso as a replacement for Vincenzo Montella in November was greeted with widespread unease among many Milan fans and some of the early results - including a humiliating draw against Benevento - suggested that it was not misplaced.

However, despite the criticism that has been levelled his way, the 40-year-old appears to have instilled a degree of consistency in a squad that has a point to prove not only to the rest of Italy, but Europe too.

Before the turn of the year, the Rossoneri beat rivals Inter in the Coppa Italia and snatched an away draw against Fiorentina. Since the new year, they have shown character to collect maximum points from their two games, with Franck Kessie, in particular, stepping up against Cagliari last week.

They face a difficult task to continue that form against high-flying Lazio, but they will be desperate to get a result - one that could potentially mark a turning point in their season.
