Team news & squads
Monterrey team news
Monterrey have struggled to hit top form in this year's Leagues Cup. After a narrow 3-2 opening defeat to FC Cincinnati, they followed up with a 1-1 draw against New York Red Bulls, eventually scraping a win via penalties. Torrent's tactical shuffle has led to defensive vulnerabilities, especially out wide. Veteran center-back Sergio Ramos continues as the defensive anchor, while Sergio Canales and Jesús “Tecatito” Corona provide creativity and attacking spark.
The team’s attack is bolstered by Germán Berterame, who remains in excellent form and is Monterrey’s primary goal threat. Carlos Salcedo is out injured and will miss this fixture, but otherwise, the squad enters this game without major new suspensions or absences.
Charlotte FC team news
Charlotte FC come into this fixture under pressure, having collected just two points from two group matches - a heavy 4-1 defeat to Juárez and a 2-2 draw against Chivas Guadalajara, with the latter ending in a penalty shootout loss. While Charlotte’s defense has been shaky, their attack remains lively, with Pep Biel their leading scorer and creative force. Wilfried Zaha and Kerwin Calderon Vargas add further firepower, with Vargas coming up big in recent games.
On the team news front, Charlotte received a boost with the recent signing of English left-back Harry Toffolo from Nottingham Forest, adding depth and experience to the backline. However, defenders Adilson Malanda and Souleyman Doumbia are out injured. Young striker Idan Toklomati returns after serving a one-match suspension, providing fresh options up front.
