Serie A run-in: Juventus close in on Scudetto as Milan clubs battle for Europe

For the sixth season in a row, Juventus are set to win the Scudetto as Serie A champions.

Despite the summer departures of Paul Pogba and Alvaro Morata, no one has been able to stop the Bianconeri marching to another championship captured on the back of a watertight defence and the goals of new signing Gonzalo Higuain.

They have not yet quite been crowned, but could cross the line on Sunday at the Stadio Olimpico when they take on Roma, their closest challengers.

THE TITLE RACE

Juventus are seven points clear of second-place Roma and can win the title by avoiding defeat against their nearest challengers at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday. A draw is enough to secure the championship even if Napoli beat Torino earlier in the day as Juve have earned more head-to-head points against Maurizio Sarri's men this season.

After Roma, the Bianconeri will host struggling Crotone before visiting Bologna.

EUROPEAN QUALIFICATION

Juventus have already guaranteed their place in next season's Champions League. Unless they lose their remaining three games and both Roma and Napoli win all of theirs, they will qualify directly for the group stage as champions or runners up. The team finishing in third place must go through the play-off round, which comprises of a two-legged qualifying tie.

Roma, Napoli and Lazio will battle it out for the other spots; the former two clubs need to reach 79 points to virtually guarantee their places in Europe's top competition.

All three clubs are assured of at least a place in the Europa League. The teams finishing fourth, fifth and sixth will all qualify for that competition, with the third spot handed down to the league as a result of the fact Juventus and Lazio, who have already qualified for Europe, are the Coppa Italia finalists.

Atalanta need one more point to confirm their Europa League qualification, meaning AC Milan, Inter and Fiorentina are likely to battle it out for the final place. Torino also have an outside chance but will need Milan to lose their three remaining games, Inter to pick up no more than two points and Fiorentina no more than three.

RELEGATION

Pescara and Palermo have been relegated, with the former currently sitting bottom of the pile with just two wins to their name all season.

Crotone are most at risk of joining them, but Empoli and Genoa are not yet safe. Crotone currently trail those two teams by four and five points respectively with three games to play and still have to travel to Juventus, so one win each for Empoli and Genoa is likely to mean curtains.

If Crotone finish level with Empoli, Crotone will survive due to their superior head-to-head record. Genoa have a head-to-head edge over both of their rivals.
