Republic of Ireland v Wales Betting Tips: Latest odds, team news, preview and predictions

Republic of Ireland are targeting their first Uefa Nations League win when they welcome Wales to Dublin on Tuesday night.

Martin O'Neill's men battled their way to a hard-fought draw against Denmark on Saturday night and the Boys in Green must bag all three points from this fixture if they are to retain realistic hopes of winning the group.

Wales were 4-1 winners when these teams met in Cardiff last month but Welsh confidence may well have been dented by a chastening 4-1 defeat at the hands of Spain on Thursday night.

Latest odds

Ireland are 27/20 (2.35) favourites with William Hill to win in Dublin, while the odds compilers offer 21/10 (3.10) that these two teams are forced to settle for a share of the spoils - an outcome that would suit neither nation.

Wales' only win in their last five fixtures came against Ireland in this competition last month and Ryan Giggs' men can be backed at 11/5 (3.20) to complete the double over O'Neill's outfit.

Team news

Matt Doherty made his first start for Ireland against the Danes in Dublin and the in-form Wolves man is likely to retain his place, while Southampton's Shane Long is hoping to be fit enough to lead the line for hosts.

Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Ethan Ampadu and Chris Mepham are all out for the visitors. Gwion Edwards and Kieron Freeman have been added to the Welsh squad, while 21-year-old David Brooks will be charged with providing some attacking spark for Giggs.

Wonderful Wales?

Tuesday's visitors raced into a 3-0 half-time lead when these teams met last month and William Hill go 14/5 (3.80) that Wales again hold the advantage at the break, while the same firm go 11/4 (3.75) that Giggs' men score more than one goal in Dublin.

Goals at a premium?

It is worth noting, however, that there have been fewer than three goals scored in 11 of Ireland's last 12 competitive matches on home soil and William Hill offer just 4/9 (1.44) that there are no more than two goals in this game.

Prediction

Saturday's dour draw against Denmark may well have set the tone for another tight tussle in Dublin and William Hill's 23/20 (2.15) quote for the first half to end goalless could represent real value for punters.
