Premier League Team of the Week: Matchday 10

Another week passes, with more action, incident and controversy added to the already heaving pile of Premier League talking points.

Chelsea survived a scare to overcome Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park, Wolves secured the shock of the week, coming from behind to beat Manchester City 2-1, and Manchester United's unbeaten run continued against Spurs - but not without sparking debate.

But who were the star performers of the 10th Premier League week of the not-so-new season? Goal.com UK takes you through our top picks...

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Goalkeeper - Robert Green (West Ham)
Much maligned this season after a disastrous World Cup and a less than stellar opening to the new Premier League campaign that sees West Ham bottom of the table, Green showed why he was England's No.1 heading to South Africa, keeping Arsenal at bay for 88 minutes and almost denying them three points in their own backyard.

Right-back - Bacary Sagna (Arsenal)
The Frenchman is becoming a regular of this feature, and his performance against West Ham was another indication as to why.

Sagna was solid throughout at the Emirates and, despite Arsenal only scoring once because of the aforementioned Green, he was a constant attacking threat.

Centre-back - Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United)
Another game and another clean sheet for the rock solid Serbian defender, who would not allow Tottenham's lone striker Robbie Keane to pass him at Old Trafford.

Not only that, but Vidic also opened the scoring against Spurs with a bullet header. A fine evening for the centre-back.

Centre-back - Christophe Berra (Wolves)
Wolves were without senior head Jody Craddock at the heart of their defence against Manchester City, but Berra played his part in limiting their big-spending opponents to a single goal, and that was from a penalty, as Mick McCarthy's side secured the weekend's shock result with a 2-1 win.

Left-back - Carlos Salcido (Fulham)
The Mexican full-back has taken to the Premier League's pace with ease, and was at his attacking best against a Wigan side that allowed him forward.

Salcido was the provider for Fulham's opening goal at Craven Cottage, and he regularly sent teasing crosses into the Wigan penalty area.

Right wing - Nani (Manchester United)
'That' controversial goal aside, the Portuguese winger was once again Manchester United's go-to player as his fantastic year continues.

Perhaps he goes to ground too easily at times, but his delivery is second to none and he turned provider once again for Vidic on Saturday.

Centre-midfield - Alex Song (Arsenal)
Three games, three goals. Hardly the sort of goalscoring record you would expect from a player who has gradually moved up the pitch from central defence under Arsene Wenger.

Song has added goals to his repertoire and Arsenal benefited from it on Saturday as his 88th minute header secured a crucial win over West Ham.

Centre-midfield - Matthew Jarvis (Wolves)
Another of Wolves' star performers in their victory over Manchester City at Molineux, Jarvis turned in a quality display on Saturday.

Jarvis has been courting suggestions of an England call-up for Fabio Capello's upcoming friendly squads, and on this evidence, he is surely in the running.

Left wing - Clint Dempsey (Fulham)
Has deputised as a striker so many times that nobody is quite sure what his natural position is any more, so we're going to stick him out on the left.

Dempsey was Fulham's goal threat once again on Saturday, turning in crosses from Salcido and Chris Baird with expertise.

Attacking midfield - Kevin Nolan (Newcastle United)
No prizes if you guessed this one. A hat-trick in the Tyne-Wear derby, including a cheeky improvised overhead kick makes you a dead cert for any team of the week.

Couple his performance with the knowledge that Andy Carroll has been living at his house, and you've got arguably the player with the best week of the lot, all things considered.

Striker - Shola Ameobi (Newcastle United)
Loved by the Toon, disregarded by others, Ameobi finally received his dues after a a fine game against Sunderland.

The striker scored two goals at St James' Park as the hosts romped to victory, and has set himself up for a decent haul for the season.

So that was Goal.com UK's best XI from the latest action in the Premier League, but do you agree with the line-up? Whether you think we've got it spot on or if there are other players who you believe we missed in this week's selection, make sure you have your say in the comment box below!
