Premier League Betting: Brighton's relegation odds slashed after defeat to Cardiff

Brighton's miserable 2019 continued as Cardiff completed a league double over the Seagulls for the first time since 1998-99.

Only relegated Fulham (6) and Huddersfield (4) have picked up fewer Premier League points than Brighton since the turn of the year.

Now just two points outside the drop zone, bet365 have slashed Brighton's relegation odds to 9/4 (3.25) with the south coast club having been as big as 11/1 (12.0) prior to kick-off on Tuesday night.

Neil Warnock's side triumphed 2-0 at the Amex Stadium, bolstering their hopes of avoiding an immediate return to the Championship. The Welsh side will feel they've been hard done by in recent weeks and they remain the more likely side to finish in the bottom three, priced at 1/3 (1.33).

Both sides have a testing fixture list to end the campaign, too. Cardiff host title challengers Liverpool plus Crystal Palace, as well as visits to Fulham and Manchester United on the final day of the season.

Brighton have a game in hand over the Bluebirds but back-to-back trips to Wolves and Tottenham precede a visit to Newcastle, all of which are played within a seven-day period.

Chris Hughton's men then visit Arsenal before hosting reigning champions Manchester City to end their campaign. With the title race looking likely to go down to the wire, the Citizens are unlikely to ease off for that fixture which could spell trouble should the home side not be clear of trouble by that late stage.

Not only are the Seagulls now on a run of four straight defeats but they've also failed to score in that time, a worrying trend for the south coast club as the season draws to a close.

The battle to avoid filling the final relegation spot looks to be a two-horse race at this stage with Southampton (150/1), Burnley (150/1) and Newcastle (250/1) all but assured of their safety for another year.
