2018 World Cup Qualification
Poland won eight of their 10 qualifying matches en route to Russia. Only second placed Denmark were able to get the better of them but Adam Nawałka's men still finished five points better off than their nearest challengers.
Getty ImagesA big part of those impressive results was the form of Bayern Munich frontman Robert Lewandowski. The 29-year-old was the top scorer in European qualification, netting an incredible 16 times, one more than Cristiano Ronaldo and setting a Uefa record in the process.
That tally means the striker accounted for 57.14% of his sides' goals in Group E and many of the nations' hopes will rest of his shoulders.
World Cup History
Having failed to qualify for the previous two editions this will be Poland first appearance in the World Cup finals since back-to-back group stage exits in 2002 and 2006.
Their best performances on the world stage came in 1974 and 1982 with a pair of third place finishes and while that could be a little optimistic this summer, a place in the knockout stages is certainly not beyond them.
