Newcastle complete Rondon loan signing from West Brom

Newcastle have confirmed the signing of striker Salomon Rondon on a season-long loan from West Brom.

As part of the deal the Magpies have sent Dwight Gayle in the opposite direction, with the striker joining the Baggies on a similar deal.

Newcastle will reportedly pay £2 million to complete the swap deal.

Rondon, 28, scored seven times in the Premier League last season as West Brom were relegated to the Championship.

Gayle, meanwhile, netted six Premier League goals for Newcastle last season, a year after scoring 23 times for the club in the Championship.

"It's an honour to be here and I'm excited to get started with my team-mates," Rondon said in a Newcastle release.

"The clubs were talking for a long time and now I'm focused on the season to help my team mates to get the points to do well this season.

"I am delighted to sign Salomon," manager Rafa Benitez added.

"When we were looking for options up front, we knew how important experience would be. Salomon has been in the Premier League for a while and he knows how demanding it is."

Rondon is Newcastle's sixth summer addition, alongside Martin Dubravka, Kenedy, Ki Sung-yueng, Fabian Schar and Yoshinori Muto.
