The 2025 NFL preseason rolls on Saturday night with a primetime clash between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jacksonville Jaguars at 7 pm ET.

All eyes in Pittsburgh will be on Aaron Rodgers, who's set to debut in black and gold. It's the second straight summer the Steelers welcome a seasoned QB into the fold—last year it was Russell Wilson who entered camp as the presumed starter before a calf injury derailed his preseason.

This time around, Rodgers joined the squad late, which might push head coach Mike Tomlin to give him some unexpected snaps in the opener—something he rarely does with starters this early.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are rolling the dice with a truly intriguing experiment. After moving up in the draft to snag Travis Hunter, the two-way star from Colorado, Jacksonville made it clear they're not sticking to the script. Hunter has been splitting time across offense and defense, with most of his spring reps coming on the offensive side—considered the tougher playbook to learn. Inside the building, there’s zero doubt: Hunter will see meaningful snaps on both sides of the ball this season. Whether we get a sneak peek on Saturday depends on how cautious the coaches want to be, but the rookie has already turned heads in OTAs and camp.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs Pittsburgh Steelers team news

Jacksonville Jaguars team news

Over in Jacksonville, the Jaguars brought in former Buccaneers assistant Liam Cohen to spark a playoff push. Cohen played a big role in reviving Baker Mayfield’s career in Tampa, and the Jags hope he can do the same for Trevor Lawrence, who took a step back last season. The offense was among the league’s weakest, averaging under 20 points per game, but there’s fresh firepower — Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter will play on both sides of the ball, while ex-Virginia Tech standout Bhayshul Tuten adds depth to the backfield behind a beefed-up offensive line.

Defense was also a sore spot, with Jacksonville finishing 27th in points allowed. They responded by spending five of their first seven draft picks on defensive talent and shoring up the secondary with veteran Eric Murray.

Pittsburgh Steelers team news

The Steelers hit the reset button this offseason, moving on from both quarterbacks they brought in a year ago — Justin Fields is now with the Jets, while Russell Wilson landed with the Giants. Star wideout George Pickens was also shipped to Dallas. In their place, Pittsburgh made a splash, signing Aaron Rodgers and trading for DK Metcalf in hopes of breathing life into an offense that ranked 16th in scoring last year.

With Rodgers locked in as the starter and rookie Will Howard nursing a hand injury, expect Mason Rudolph to handle the bulk of the snaps under center in this matchup. Defensively, the Steelers were already stout in 2024, ranking eighth in scoring defense at 20.4 points per game, and they’ve only gotten stronger. They locked up T.J. Watt on a new deal and pulled off a blockbuster, sending Minkah Fitzpatrick to Miami in exchange for shutdown corner Jalen Ramsey.
