Diego Maradona to coach UAE's Fujairah SC

Diego Maradona has made a surprise return to management as he has taken over the reigns at UAE’s Fujairah SC, who were relegated to the second division last season.

The former Argentina national team coach’s last stint at management was in UAE with Al Wasl which ended prematurely as the club’s hierarchy sacked him after just one season.

The 56-year-old hasn’t had an illustrious career as a coach. He started with Mandiyu de Corrientes and Racing Club in Argentina where he had a win percentage of a mere 8% and 18.3% respectively. Thereafter, he was chosen to lead Argentina in 2008 and at the World Cup, they were thrashed 4-0 by Germany in the quarterfinals which ended his stint.

He was then appointed coach of Al Wasl in 2011 with whom he could only manage an eighth place finish coupled with early exits from President’s Cup and Arabian Gulf Cup.
