Sunderland have bolstered their squad with the loan signing of highly rated Chelsea youngster Jake Clarke-Salter, the club confirmed on Monday.
Clarke-Salter, 20, has been with the Blues for more than 10 years, and has made two first-team appearances for his boyhood club.
And after spending last season at Bristol Rovers the defender is gearing up for another temporary move - this time at the Wearsiders.
Clarke-Salter was part of the England Under-20s side that won the World Cup in 2017 and becomes Chris Coleman's first signing at the Stadium of Light.
“Jake is a hugely talented young player who has jumped at the opportunity to come to this club and show people what he can do," said Coleman.
“You don’t play for a club like Chelsea unless you have tremendous ability and I’m sure he will be able to demonstrate that for Sunderland.
“Jake is exactly the type of hungry young player I have spoken about and he has shown me just how keen he is to come to here and play in front of our supporters.”
