Betting Tips for Today: Oppose Latics at a tasty price despite strong home record

The Championship's intense calendar presents plenty of challenges for the teams competing in England's second tier.

Friday's clash between Wigan Athletic and Bristol City sees both teams play their third game in six days - a testing workload for any squad.

888Sport make Wigan 28/29 (1.97) favourites to win what would be their fourth home league game in five this season. Bristol City are underdogs at 45/17 (3.65) with the draw priced at 28/11 (3.55).

On the surface Wigan's home form makes them look like the bet. They've collected 10 of their 13 points so far at this venue but the quick turnaround could prove problematic for the odds-on shots.

"We're going to be a little bit short on Friday night in terms of our usual starting 11, but that gives the rest of the squad the perfect opportunity to show themselves on the pitch." Latics boss Paul Cook told iFollow.

Part of the rationale behind opposing Wigan is the quality of teams they've faced so far. Despite winning three of four at the DW Stadium, none of those sides they've played sit higher than 11th coming into this weekend.

This match presents a much tougher test in the shape of Bristol City who occupy fifth spot and who should harbour play-off ambitions after a mid-table finish last term.

The Robins lost 4-2 at West Brom midweek but prior to that had won four games in a row. Lee Johnson's side have had what looks a much tougher fixture list and given they've already recorded wins at QPR and Swansea this season, they are the selection on a "draw no bet" basis.

Such a packed schedule isn't ideal for either side but with little to choose between them, Bristol City's price looks a much more attractive selection.

The visitors will have rotation issues too of course, but at 7/4 (2.75) with stakes returned if the match ends all square they simply can't be ignored given their recent performances.
