Arsenal legend urges Emery to pursue Martial and Dembele

Arsenal have been told they would be “crazy” not to move for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial if he became available, while Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele would be a “bonus”.

The Gunners have been linked with plenty of attacking talent heading towards another transfer window.

They already have plenty on their books, but the opportunity to land players of considerable potential will not be passed up.

With that in mind, Gunners legend Lauren believes Unai Emery should be positioning himself at the front of the queue if an exit door is opened at Old Trafford.

He told Sporting Bet: “If Martial doesn’t renew his contract at Man Utd, Arsenal would be crazy not to try and snap him up.

“He’s a fantastic player and is starting to show what he can really do when given a good run of games.

“Martial won’t go anywhere without being guaranteed first-team football, which I think he would get at Arsenal.”

Martial has endured his struggles with United, but has taken on more responsibility and delivered a number of impressive performances over recent weeks.

Jose Mourinho has offered no indication that he would be prepared to sanction a sale, with his side in need of attacking inspiration of their own.

That will likely force Arsenal to look elsewhere, with another troubled Frenchman reported to be on their radar.

World Cup winner Dembele has not enjoyed the best of times since making a €105 million move to Barcelona, with transfer talk sparked on the back of his struggles.

Lauren feels the 21-year-old would be another shrewd addition as he ticks plenty of boxes for the Gunners.

“Everything about his style of play matches what Arsenal are looking for,” said a Premier League title winner.

“He isn’t getting the playing time at Barcelona, or playing in his strongest position, but Arsenal’s high intensity will allow him to reach his potential.

“Dembele can play on either side of the pitch, which is a bonus and he’s showed that he can do it against the big teams, coming off the bench to rescue points for Barcelona.

“I would love to see him at Arsenal.”
