The headlines at San Siro have been dominated by Milan's instability off the field. Previous owner Li Yonghong has seen his stake in the club usurped by hedge fund Elliott Management, meaning an uncertain future is in store

Milan have also had to deal with a suspension from the Europa League handed down by UEFA for breaking FFP rules, although the ban has since been shelved; while coach Gattuso and star players Bonucci and Gianluigi Donnarumma could also be moving on before this summer comes to an end.

With the club's new owners looking on, a strong start is vital for Gattuso, and that will mean impressing in the International Champions Cup.

Jose Mourinho too is keen to see more from his charges. "Everything is really bad," the manager stated last week, frustrated at a lack of transfer activity while rivals Liverpool have been making waves in the market.

A 0-0 ICC draw with San Jose barely calmed Mourinho's nerves, and by all accounts there is still plenty of work to do around Old Trafford before the season starts.

While Milan have rather more serious troubles, they should prove a sterner test for Mourinho's young guns on Wednesday evening, and failure to win would only cause more clouds to form over the club.
