With Antonee Robinson out due to injury, Holstein Kiel's John Tolkin was expected to be the starting left back for the U.S. at the Gold Cup, but Arfsten has largely held a grip on the position due to his creativity.
He has three assists in the tournament and is continuing to make his case to be Robinson's potential understudy at next year's World Cup. However, his efforts on the defensive end remain a concern as he played a role in the U.S. conceding both goals to Costa Rica. Fortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, the team would hold on to win on penalties.
