VIDEO: Footage emerges of Lamine Yamal refusing to stand & applaud Cristiano Ronaldo & Co. during trophy lift after Spain's Nations League defeat to Portugal as Barcelona wonderkid walks away
Footage has emerged of Lamine Yamal walking away and refusing to applaud as Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the Nations League trophy for Portugal.
Having struggled to provide an attacking spark, Yamal was replaced during the extra-time interval - much to his disgust. That decision kept him stuck on the sidelines for a nerve-shredding penalty shootout, as Alvaro Morata missed from the spot and Portugal converted all five of their efforts.
Spain’s squad sportingly stuck around to applaud Ronaldo and Co. as they enjoyed wild celebrations, but Barcelona forward Yamal was in no mood to watch rivals revel in trophy glory and made a quick beeline for the dressing room - removing his runners-up medal in the process.
WHAT NEXT?
Yamal has enjoyed a memorable 2024-25 campaign, picking up three major honours at club level, but may miss out on Ballon d’Or glory - at least for now - after seeing five-time Golden Ball winner Ronaldo beat him to the UEFA Nations League crown.
