A last-minute goal from James Tarkowski secured a point for David Moyes' side in a feisty clash between local rivals. After the final whistle, however, Curtis Jones and Abdoulaye Doucoure almost came to blows after the Liverpool midfielder confronted the Everton star about his celebration, resulting in other players, stewards and even police getting involved. Both Jones and Doucoure were then sent off, shown second yellow cards having been booked during the game.

  • WHAT VAN DIJK SAID

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk took aim at Doucoure and referee Michael Oliver after the game, telling Match of the Day: "It was a very big provocation from one certain player. We all saw it and reacted as a team as we were able to do. You know what happens nowadays, it becomes one big tussle. Then it is not me who has to deal with it, it is the referee and today I am not sure he had it fully under control."

Everton boss David Moyes said of his player's red card: "I'm disappointed with Doucoure because we need him, we're down on numbers at the moment. We've got to be careful what we do. Discipline is never easy sometimes in these games and tonight was a game where quite easily sending offs happen."
