Fans gathered outside a private function that was intended to celebrate a notable landmark for the Italian heavyweights. Recent results, which have seen the Rossoneri claim just one win in their last five Serie A fixtures, ensured that the collective mood was slightly hostile among disgruntled supporters.

A banner reading “players without hunger or dignity, you perfectly represent these owners” was on display outside the event, along with another saying: “Incompetent directors, club without ambition. You are not worthy of our history.”

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale, along with executive directors Ibrahimovic and Paolo Scaroni, were forced to enter the venue through a side entrance in order to avoid the crowds. Prominent players such as Leao, Alvaro Morata, Fikayo Tomori, Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria were heckled as they arrived.

United States international Pulisic – with eight goals to his name this season – was, however, greeted with cheers. There was no reaction to his fellow countryman Yunus Musah joining the party. Milan will be back in action on Friday when taking in a trip to Verona.
