That is the opinion of former Premier League star Shay Given, who will be among the interested observers when a global title comes up for grabs on American soil this summer. Some of the biggest teams on the planet are heading to the United States.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

La Liga giants Real sit within that travelling party, and they will have a fresh face among their ranks after luring England international full-back Alexander-Arnold away from Premier League champions Liverpool.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The Blancos agreed to part with €10 million (£8m/$11m) in order to get that deal done before the 26-year-old hit free agency, with history being sought at the Club World Cup. Alexander-Arnold and Co will, however, have their work cut out against the likes of Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain and Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich.

  • WHAT SHAY GIVEN SAID

Ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Given - with the Blues another of the sides with Club World Cup glory in their sights - told GOAL when asked who will prove the stiffest opposition to Pep Guardiola’s star-studded outfit: “I don’t know too much about the teams from the other continents, but I imagine it will be a team from Europe that will be the biggest favourites to win it.

“I think PSG were unreal in the Champions League - it was five and could have been eight or nine, that’s how dominant they were. They will have enjoyed the celebrations afterwards, but can they recover and go again? I imagine they will be big favourites to win it.

“Real Madrid, with the history they have in competitions as a club, and Trent Alexander-Arnold has just gone there - paid money to get him early for this competition, so that’s how much it means to them. Manchester City and Chelsea are involved as well, Premier League clubs, we would like to see them do well.”
