Steph Houghton is back at Man City: Ex-Lionesses defender takes on new role following retirement from football

<p>Houghton has taken on the roles of club ambassador and project officer at City, the club where she spent over 10 years playing. A former City captain, Houghton will now represent the club at various events and matches around the world. The former Lioness will also work with different footballing departments at the City Football Academy.</p>

WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>The 36-year-old became a club legend after winning eight major trophies with City, including the Women's Super League title in 2016. In another historic achievement, she becomes City's first-ever female representative.</p>

<p>“The legacy continues. We are delighted that Steph’s impact will continue here at Manchester City as Project Officer and through her historic ambassadorial role," Managing Director Charlotte O'Neill said.</p><p>“This newest chapter for Steph reflects our ambition to provide the best environment for personal development on and off the pitch, and I am very much looking forward to seeing her flourish.”</p>

WHAT MAN CITY SAID

<p>Gareth Taylor's side face Chelsea on Saturday in a clash between the two sides on course to go head to head for the WSL title this season. City, who are unbeaten and have won six of their opening seven games, are just a point above the Blues.</p>
