  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The 22-year-old frontman was supposed to be a long-term option to lead the line for club and country after making early progress in his career at Sturm Graz and Atalanta. A £72 million ($97m) transfer took him to Old Trafford in the summer of 2023.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Hojlund has registered just 26 goals through 95 appearances for the Red Devils, with only four efforts recorded in the Premier League last season. He has started to drift out of favour there, with United now being heavily linked with Sporting sensation Viktor Gyokeres.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Hojlund also finds himself slipping into reverse at international level, with Denmark favouring Mika Biereth in their No.9 berth for a friendly date with Lithuania. He found the target in a 5-0 victory, while drawing a red card from a hefty challenge, while strike partner Kasper Dolberg also hit the net.

    WHAT DANISH MEDIA SAID

Biereth is considered to have put in a "venomous" performance, with Danish media outlet Bold claiming that: "Hojlund must be shaking his pants by now. He has been overtaken." United’s No.9 was given just 18 minutes off the bench, and made little impact.

He was also substituted during a 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland, after playing 66 minutes, with Biereth now the man in form. He was on Arsenal’s books until January 2024, but is now with Monaco and hit 13 goals for them - including three hat-tricks - after moving to France from Sturm Graz in the winter transfer window of 2025.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RASMUS HOJLUND?

Hojlund could be on the move this summer, with questions being asked of his future in Manchester. Serie A giants Inter have been credited with interest, and United could part with a man under contract until 2030 as they look to raise funds that can be reinvested in new recruits.
