'Sell Maguire!' - Rio Ferdinand names the four Man United players he'd sell as he opens up on club's Mason Greenwood dilemma

The Manchester United legend has given his verdict on the state of the current squad as Erik ten Hag prepares for another summer of change at Old Trafford. Ex-England ace Ferdinand admits it is time for the likes of Christian Eriksen, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Harry Maguire to go, but is less sure on what he would do with both Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

In a game of 'Keep or Sell' with Mail Sport, Ferdinand shared his thoughts on what the Red Devils should do with every player.

With Ten Hag now set to remain at Manchester United, the Dutchman is going to have to be ruthless this summer when it comes to departures. The Red Devils finished 31 points off Premier League champions Manchester City and despite their FA Cup triumph, have struggled to reach the desired levels from those who flood Old Trafford each week.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Ferdinand said he would like to have a conversation with Rashford before deciding what his next move should be. He said: "I'd need to find out where his head's at, what he wants to do. What's been the reasons for the downturn in performances. If I get the right answer I keep him, if I don't like what I hear I let him go."

He gave a similar answer regarding the returning Greenwood, saying: "I'd need a conversation with him as well. See where his head's at. Find out the temperature around the club. I'd probably have communication with the supporters groups as well. I think it's a real club decision rather than a single person's decision."

To put it simply, a large number of Manchester United players have had their opportunity at the club and proven they are not good enough to help guide them back to the top of the Premier League. While the likes of Eriksen and Maguire have been loyal servants, change is always needed in the ever-demanding world of elite football. As well as this, the expensive investments in Sancho and Antony have clearly not worked, so it may be time for United to cut their losses while they still can.
