Madsen experienced a memorable day on and off the pitch as she marked her comeback with a 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Women’s Super League (WSL). The Denmark international was included in Brian Sorensen’s matchday squad for the first time since giving birth to her daughter Fritsen in October. Making her return as a second-half substitute, Madsen contributed to Everton’s dominant performance before being greeted with a life-changing surprise.

Following the full-time whistle, as the Everton team celebrated their convincing win, Madsen stood on the pitch holding her five-month-old daughter. At that moment, her partner, Martin Thomsen, unexpectedly dropped to one knee and proposed in front of her teammates and the crowd.

Completely caught off guard, Madsen later expressed her shock and joy at the unexpected moment.

"I've been waiting for this moment for so long now, a year," Madsen told the BBC. "Ever since becoming pregnant, I've been aiming to get back as quick as possible. Today my little baby is turning five months so it is so nice to be back. Ending off with my boyfriend asking him to marry him, that was a little twist - I did not expect that. I had no idea I was going to come on and I had especially no idea he was going to propose to me. The first thing I said to the other girls was that I hate surprises, but this one was alright."

With a successful comeback behind her, Madsen now shifts her focus to Everton’s next WSL fixture against Manchester United on March 30.
