Next Ryan Reynolds: Wrexham’s biggest movie star wannabe revealed after rubbing shoulders with Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman & Channing Tatum

Hollywood co-owners have been in place at SToK Racecourse since February 2021, with a trip to Wembley, record-breaking title win, two promotions, countless big-money transfer deals and A-list guests aplenty taken in on a quite remarkable journey.

Reynolds, along with fellow co-chairman Rob McElhenney, has often invited famous friends over to North Wales, allowing Wrexham’s playing squad to rub shoulders with the likes of Will Ferrell, Hugh Jackman, Eva Longoria, Paul Rudd and Channing Tatum.

Some have been bitten by the acting bug, with Palmer and Paul Mullin both landing cameo roles alongside Reynolds and Jackman in the Deadpool & Wolverine blockbuster. Cleworth admits that certain Red Dragons are more comfortable in front of the camera than others.

He told the Men In Blazers podcast when asked to pick out the team-mate that has most embraced the attention that famous owners and the award-winning ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series have brought: “Ollie Palmer is quite good. He’s always ready. He’s naturally quite good in front of the camera. He’s been in a few [movies] now. He needs a few more to get his portfolio up a bit.”

While Palmer is a natural performer, on and off the pitch, Cleworth said of adjusting to the demands of documentary film-makers and regular requests to fill acting roles in commercials – such as the one shot with ‘Magic Mike’ star Tatum for Super Bowl LIX: “It doesn’t get any easier with the amount that we’ve done. When someone asks you to do something in front of the camera, still find it nervous.”

Cleworth has every right to feel more at home on the field than he does facing the cameras off, with the 22-year-old defender seeing his stock rise again in 2024-25 as he is billed as a potential Premier League star of the future – with Wrexham hoping to reach that level as a collective.
