Man Utd look to fill £100m European football void by playing midweek friendlies against 'high-profile opposition' between Premier League games

The Red Devils find themselves without continental competition after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season and suffering defeat to domestic rivals Tottenham in the Europa League final.

It has already been claimed that Ruben Amorim wants to take his players away on mini-breaks when United have no midweek action - allowing them to strengthen bonds while taking in a change of scenery and enjoying some warm weather training.

The Sun now reports that money-spinning "semi-competitive" fixtures could be lined up against sides that are also looking to fill holes in their respective schedules. United have just one midweek game - on December 3 against West Ham - before Christmas.

That is because they are also out of the Carabao Cup after suffering a humbling second round defeat to League Two outfit Grimsby. It is being suggested that they could tackle the likes of AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Lazio and Sevilla - as they are also without European football.

The Red Devils could arrange friendlies in the UAE, allowing them to head out of England while also getting useful minutes under their belt. It is claimed that a post-season tour of Asia made United just under £8m ($11m) last season, before equalling that with a month-long spell in the United States.
