  • Gave his assessment of life at Old Trafford
  • Did not want to follow example of club legends
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The former Sweden striker spent almost two years with the Red Devils, helping them to a Europa League and League Cup double while scoring 29 times in 53 matches. However, knee injuries plagued parts of his spell in England before he left to join the LA Galaxy in 2018.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ibrahimovic admits he had no interest in the storied history of the Premier League giants as he wanted to make history his own way, instead of having to follow advice from club legends like David Beckham, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.

  • WHAT IBRAHIMOVIC SAID

"They were different from what I was used to,” he told The Athletic. "You’re just a number there, I felt. Then, in my mindset, I want to make my own history. I was not interested in what happened before, with all respect. Yes, that brings pressure to live up to what they were used to. But I was not interested in listening to the Class of ’92. That doesn’t help me because it’s not my team (that I support) and I wanted to do my own history. I wanted people to say: ‘You won and United won this together.’"
