  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Sky Germany, the Germany international has rejected an improved contract extension offer from the Bundesliga giants, choosing instead to walk away as a free agent when his current deal expires at the end of the month. Bayern are said to have been formally notified of Sane’s intention to depart.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sane has been strongly linked with his Arsenal, but his next destination looks increasingly likely to be Turkey, as Sky Germany reports that he has verbally agreed to join Galatasaray. The Super Lig champions have offered Sane a net salary of €10–12m (£8.5m-£10m/$11.5m-$13.75m) per year, with the final touches now being put on the deal before a formal announcement is made.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Missing out on Sane will be a blow for Arsenal, who have also been monitoring Nico Williams of Athletic Club, but the Spaniard's reported wage demands have posed a stumbling block in negotiations. Sane represented a cost-effective solution with proven top-level experience, and it will be a bitter pill to swallow for Mikel Arteta to see him head to Turkey instead of the Emirates.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SANE?

Sane is not expected to join Harry Kane & Co when Bayern compete at the Club World Cup in the United States, which begins this week. Across 220 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, Sane has racked up 116 goal involvements, with 16 of those coming in their run to Bundesliga title glory last season.
