  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus believes that German international Angelo Stiller has the potential to become an important player in midfield for Barcelona due to his style of play, and as such, has urged Hansi Flick to push for the signing of the Stuttgart ace next summer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Following the end of the previous campaign, Stiller was linked to a move to Barcelona as the club were looking at options in the market to replenish their squad and find a suitable replacement for Sergio Busquets.

It remains to be seen whether the Catalans are still interested in signing the Stuttgart man, given that Pedri has shrugged off his injury woes to become arguably the most influential player in the team, not to forget the return of Gavi from a long-term injury and the emergence of Marc Casado as the enforcer in midfield.

However, Barca could reportedly snap Stiller up for around €25-30 million next summer, with the player's contract with the Bundesliga outfit expiring in 2027. The potential sale of Frenkie de Jong, who has been rumoured to hit the exit door next summer, could help this operation materialise, too. More importantly, Stiller and Flick are both represented by the same agent, Pini Zahavi, which could play a key role in a possible transfer next summer.

  • WHAT LOTHAR MATTHAUS SAID

"Stiller would be good for Barca because of his style of play. I trust him and if Barcelona were to sell players, his signing would be possible and sensible," Matthaus said (as quoted by SPORT). "Stiller could put his stamp on Barcelona and organise the midfield there."

    WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?

Barcelona will return to LaLiga this weekend as they take on Las Palmas on Saturday, November 30, in a bid to extend their lead at the top of the table. Flick's troops have collected 34 points in 14 games, which puts them four points above Real Madrid, who have a game in hand. To avoid throwing away the early lead, Barca will need to ensure they don't drop points for the third successive league fixture.
