    The game was stopped after 17 minutes, with Athletic Club 1-0 up thanks an Inaki Williams goal, after a supporter suffered a cardiac arrest in the stands - as per Reuters. The fan's death was confirmed an hour later, with both teams subsequently agreeing to the suspension of the match.

  • WHAT GRANADA SAID

    Granada and Athletic Club both released statements confirming the suspension of the game and sending condolences to the family of the supporter who passed away. "From the Entity we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family and friends, as well as to the entire Granada family," read the statement from the home side. "The match between Granada CF and Athletic Club, suspended after the death of a subscriber of our Club."

    Athletic Club added via their official social media accounts: "La Liga and the two clubs have agreed to call off the match due to the death of a fan at Los Cármenes. Athletic Club expresses its deepest condolences. Our thoughts are with the person's family and loved ones."

    La Liga has confirmed the match will be rescheduled, with an official date to follow as both clubs take some time to come to terms with the tragic events at Los Carmenes. "Granada CF vs. Athletic Club de Bilbao has been suspended following the tragic death of a fan at the Estadio Nuevo los Cármenes," the Spanish top-flight said. "Our condolences go out to their family and friends, as well as to all Granada CF fans. A rescheduled date and time for the match will be announced in the near future."

    Reigning La Liga champions Barcelona are among the clubs to have responded to the news at Granada. They said in a statement: "FC Barcelona expresses its deepest condolences to the loved ones of the fan who passed away during the game between Granada and Athletic Club. Rest in peace."

    Granada are due to return to La Liga action away at Celta Vigo on December 16. Athletic Club, meanwhile, will host Atletico Madrid on the same day.
