FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed plans to have LAFC and Club America play each other to determine the final spot in the 2025 Club World Cup. Their matchup comes after Mexico's Club Leon were removed from the tournament after violating multi-club ownership rules.

The Mexican Club have appealed, and have a final hearing from the Court of Arbitration for Sport set for May 6.

LAFC and Club America are the two teams highest on the so-called "ranking pathway" for CONCACAF qualification. FIFA has said previously that was a potential plan, pending the outcome of the Leon appeal.

  • WHAT GIANNI INFANTINO SAID

The FIFA president outlined the plans to reporters: "What we're looking at is that, if the CAS upholds the Appeals Committee's decision, FIFA's intention is to play a playoff match between the team that lost the CONCACAF Champions League final, LAFC, and the next-place team in the rankings, which is America."
