  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea have been able to hammer out an acceptable package with Torino that will allow Casadei to join the Serie A club. According to The Athletic, the fee will total €15 million (£12.5m/$15.5m), with the Blues to also retain a 25% sell-on clause should the player thrive and Torino cash in at a future time.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chelsea had originally wanted as much as €25m (£20.9m/$25.9m) to part with Casadei, who has only been a fringe player this season under Enzo Maresca. The Athletic notes that those demands fell to €15m, but with the caveat that a sell-on clause should be as much as 40%. To eventually strike a deal, they again had to make a concession. The player had earlier been heavily linked with Lazio but a final agreement between the clubs never came.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Casadei, an Italy Under-21 international, has never played senior football in his homeland, having been plucked from Inter's academy by Chelsea in a €20m deal in 2022 when he was 19.

    WHAT NEXT?

Casadei is reported to have undergone a medical in Turin on Friday, suggesting that the transfer is very close to be completed and announced. He stands to play much more regular football with Torino, who are 10th ahead of the weekend fixtures, and could even work his way into Italy's senior squad.
