Chelsea had originally wanted as much as €25m (£20.9m/$25.9m) to part with Casadei, who has only been a fringe player this season under Enzo Maresca. The Athletic notes that those demands fell to €15m, but with the caveat that a sell-on clause should be as much as 40%. To eventually strike a deal, they again had to make a concession. The player had earlier been heavily linked with Lazio but a final agreement between the clubs never came.

Casadei, an Italy Under-21 international, has never played senior football in his homeland, having been plucked from Inter's academy by Chelsea in a €20m deal in 2022 when he was 19.
