  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Washington Commanders are adding some serious firepower to their pass rush with the signing of veteran pass-rusher Von Miller, one of the biggest names left on the free-agent market.

The eight-time Pro Bowler took to Instagram to reveal his next chapter, confirming that he's joining the Commanders after being cut loose by the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it will be a one-year deal, but the two sides are still finalizing the finer details of the contract.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Dante Fowler Jr. out the door, the Washington Commanders had a glaring hole in their pass rush, and they've turned to a seasoned vet to help fill it. Enter Von Miller, a future Hall of Famer with a résumé stacked with accolades and rings.

Miller's journey began when the Denver Broncos selected him second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. Over a decade in Denver, he became the face of the franchise's defense and helped deliver a Super Bowl 50 title, earning MVP honors on football's biggest stage as he led one of the most feared defenses in modern history.

Four years ago, Miller was dealt midseason to the Los Angeles Rams, where he promptly added a second Super Bowl ring to his collection. That postseason run helped him land a massive six-year, $120 million contract with the Buffalo Bills.

But the veteran edge rusher's time in Buffalo was plagued by injury setbacks, including an ACL tear that derailed his first season. Since then, Miller’s been more of a rotational player than a featured pass rusher.

Now with a fresh start in Washington, Miller is hungry to prove he’s still got gas in the tank. The Commanders are hoping his experience, savvy, and edge presence can lift a pass rush unit that ranked near the bottom of the league. He’s not expected to solve every problem but with a chip on his shoulder and championship pedigree, Miller just might help keep Washington in the postseason conversation.

    WHAT NEXT FOR COMMANDERS?

Miller, who spent the past three years in Buffalo, didn’t start a single game in 2023 or 2024, but showed flashes of his old self during his debut season with the Bills in 2022, racking up 21 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and eight sacks across 11 starts.

Now 35, Miller will bring leadership, experience, and proven edge-rushing talent to a young Washington squad looking to climb the defensive rankings in 2025.
